Beaver News - 1st Stretford (Longford) Scout Group

After planning our machines last week, the Beavers came armed with mountains of recycling this week and used tape, scissors and googly eyes to create a whole array of machines! After building, we briefly evaluated our builds with a partner.

For our Skills challenge award, we needed to complete some team missions! In Lodges we tried to move a ping pong ball along a line of guttering pieces without dropping it and tried to solve a riddle involving a farmer getting corn, a fox and a chicken across a river. We also started our Builder badge by planning our designs for next week.

We started our Gardener badge by playing a game where each of the corners was labelled with a session and we had to run to the correct corner for each statement about trees, e.g. when do fruit trees have blossom?
Then we split in half to consider what plants needs to grow and to pot some bulbs and seeds to take home; while the other half identified a variety of gardening tools.

This week we completed our Health and Fitness badge whilst also ticking off requirements for our Skills challenge badge. We practised brushing a model of teeth and discussed how we keep them healthy. We took part in some agility games and noted how our heart rate was affected. We sorted foods into healthy and not so healthy and considered the “eat well” plate. Finally we made posters to promote healthy living to others.
