Each year we celebrate explorers birthday, and this week was no different! We had games and snacks and pop to share. Also, we shared our ideas about what we want adding to the programme for the following year and camps.
We began the night rushing around Tescos with exactly £7 for two groups! Our menu needed to have a main course and a dessert which would make a perfect meal for the leaders to judge. When we got back to the hut we didn't waste any time and got to work quickly on our gourmet meals. The two groups made mac n cheese, apple strudel, bangers n mash and a chocolate croissants.
Infection! Malaria, Measles and TB. To work towards our Platinum Scout Award, we had to make a 5 minute presentation about a given disease. In groups, all of us researched and created a news like presentation which we performed to the other explorers. We learnt and shared shocking infomation, and and in the time we did our news shows, we worked out that 69 people would have died from these 3 diseases.
For Halloween we had a Explorer party! Games, food, music and absolute chaos! We ate donuts off of strings, did apple bobbing and put our faces in bowls of flour (ew). Plus there were mummies made out of toilet paper!!
This week we did Manchester Monopoly around town. We dashed around taking pictures of different buildings and areas for points, we also had chance cards to gain extra points, for example, take a picture with a police officer!
Today we plucked and prepared a partridge to eat and also made jam. Owen taught us how to make our own food from wild resources so we made jam out of crab apples and rose hips, and also plucked, gutted and cooked two partridge birds! The ingredients for jam were all foraged locally and Owen and his dog, Winston, caught the birds themselves!
On our team building night we did many games developed our team work skills. We did a games like spaghetti where we all held hands with 2 random people in a circle and worked together to get back into a circle without being twisted. We also played a game where we all sat in a circle, blind folded, all holding one piece of rope and we had to try make it into a perfect square and then a star, which was very difficult!
Mersey Moot is an annual camp for over 1000 Explorers, Guides, Young Leader and Network Members at Tawd Vale. There was activities to take part in, inculding, arts and crafts (which inculded Manly Crafts!), inflatables, a ferris wheel, circus skills, birds of prey, air rifle shooting and live music. However at night, there was a DJ, live rock band, silent disco and absolute CHAOS. Later at night everyone sat round a camp fire and played fun mind games.
