Our Scout Group depends on good financial management to keep delivering great adventures for young people. The Treasurer plays a key part in making that happen, keeping our finances healthy, accurate and compliant with charity regulations.
Working closely with the Trustee Board and Leadership Team, you’ll make sure we’re managing money responsibly, planning for the future, and meeting our obligations to the Charity Commission.
This isn’t a full-time commitment – you’ll attend around six Trustee Board meetings a year, plus our AGM. It’s a flexible role that fits around your work, family and social life.
What You’ll Do
- Work with the Lead Volunteer and Finance Administrator to create and monitor budgets
- Provide clear financial reports for the Trustee Board
- Ensure our annual accounts are prepared, examined and submitted to the Charity Commission
- Keep our financial records accurate and compliant
- Oversee insurance, contracts and banking arrangements
- Help the group get the best value for money
- Ensure suitable reserves and financial controls are in place
- Manage risk and advise on financial decisions
- Support succession planning so the next Treasurer can step in easily
What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to be an accountant – just organised, confident with numbers, and happy to work with others. Experience in financial management helps, but what matters most is enthusiasm and reliability.
You’ll need to complete the standard appointment process, including a DBS check and mandatory safeguarding and safety training.
Please note that this role cannot be combined with Group Chair, Secretary, or any leadership positions to avoid conflicts of interest.

Expenses
Like all our volunteers, you won’t be paid for your time, but we’ll reimburse reasonable expenses in line with our policy.
