This evening we were joined by the leaders of the 1st Buddha’s Light Scout Group for a virtual temple visit

The scouts were shown a short video introducing them to the history of the Buddha, and a presentation of some of the key teachings of Buddhism.

We also learned about some of the work done in the local community by the Buddha’s Light International Association, including yearly cultural events and festivals, facilitating temple visits and other charity work.

As the temple in Stretford is currently closed, we were given a virtual guided tour of the Fo Guang Shan Temple in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The tour included taking a closer look at the Front Hall, Three Goodness Pagoda and the Golden Buddha Shrine.

To end the session, we were taught about some of the objects found in the temple and their significance – including a demonstration of some of the instruments and chants used by Buddhists during prayer.

What the scouts have learned tonight will go towards their World Challenge Badge!

A big thank you to 1st Buddha’s Light Scout Group and Fo Guang Shan Manchester Temple for leading this evening’s session!
