Beavers is the next step in the Scouts journey, for young people aged 6 to 8. It’s all about trying new things, making friends, and learning skills for life through fun and adventure.
Our Beavers take part in a wide range of activities – from games and crafts to cooking, teamwork and getting outdoors. They learn to be kind, helpful and confident while discovering their own strengths.
Beavers build independence, learn about the world around them, and start taking small steps towards responsibility – all while having a brilliant time with their friends.
The Promise
When Beavers are ready to be invested, they make their Promise as part of the Colony. It’s a proud moment, and there are several versions of the Beaver Promise to suit different beliefs and backgrounds.
Badges
Beavers earn badges by having a go, trying their best, and learning new things. There are badges for creativity, adventure, teamwork, and outdoor skills. As they progress, Beavers can work towards the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award – the top award in Beavers.
Uniform
Beavers wear a turquoise sweatshirt and their group necker. The group provides the first necker when your child is invested. Parents buy the sweatshirt and optional polo shirt from Scout Stores or other uniform suppliers.
Moving on to Cubs
Young people usually move from Beavers to Cubs three times a year – in January, after Easter, and at the start of September. Your leader will talk to you about when moving on is right for your child, based on confidence and readiness as well as age.
When it’s time, they’ll be welcomed into Cubs to continue their adventure.
